There is no level testing at Swing in Bloom and almost all of the workshops are open to every attendee. However, our instructors want to make sure that they are able to teach the workshop at the appropriate level and will not lower the complexity or difficulty for those that are not ready for the content that is being taught.
If you are struggling with a workshop's level, we ask you to step out of the rotation and either attend another workshop or just stay and observe and audit the class. Take notes and video, because one day you will be ready for it! But if you stay in rotation, you are also making it more difficult for every partner you dance with to understand the material.
Level 1: Newcomer
These workshops are designed for anyone who has just begun their west coast swing journey or are starting to dance cross-role. Classes will be fun and approachable, and you will come out of these classes with a much stronger understanding of the fundamentals of west coast swing.
Level 2: Novice
These workshops are designed for anyone who has been dancing for around a year and can do the basics confidently (underarm turn, left side pass, sugar push, sugar tuck, and whip). Dancers who are new to the west coast swing may find the content challenging but rewarding, especially if they have experience in a similar dance.
Level 3: Intermediate
These workshops are designed for anyone who has been dancing for several years and are thinking about connecting with their partner, the floor, and the music more than they are thinking about the next move. These classes are not recommended for dancers who are new to west coast swing.
Level 4: Advanced/All-Star
These workshops require attendees to have qualified to dance in the advanced or all-star division at WSDC events. There is no level testing to qualify and no exceptions to this policy.
